Dancing In The Rain

Dancing In The Rain

As children, some of our favorite moments were spent playing outside. No phones, televisions or video games. Just laughter, scraped knees, and the joy of being present with one another and with nature.

Our plays were often interrupted by a heavy downpour. But we knew too well to blend in the interruptions. After running to our respective homes, our parents yielded to our pleas to return to the rain, promising to be careful. We would joyfully come out, one child at a time. Our joy knew no bounds; we laughed, screamed at the sound of thunder, and welcomed the beating rain on our skin. The storm did not steal our joy; it deepened it. The rain did not ruin the moment—it became the moment. We happily danced in the rain.

Reflecting on those memories still brings joy to my heart. But it also led me to a deeper question - What if, as adults, we learned to dance in the rain, too?

The rain in this story represents life’s challenges—our obstacles, trials, disappointments, and unexpected turns. The thunder echoes the moments that shake us. The clouds symbolize uncertainty.

Yet what if we learned to laugh even when the thunder roars?

What if we saw disruptions as divine?

What if detours were not delays, but redirections?

What interrupts us may be what shapes us.

We cannot control how long the rain lasts, but we can choose how we respond to it. We can allow the rain to harden us—or to cleanse us. As the saying goes, it is not what happens to you that affects you; it is how you respond to it.

Peace is not found in the absence of storms, but in how we stand within them.

The rain sometimes reveals gifts and skills we didn’t know we had—strength, patience, resilience, faith. Tough seasons often uncover what comfort never could?

A calm sea never makes a skilled sailor.

So when rainy days come—and they will—what will you do?

Will you hide in sorrow, waiting for the storm to pass?

Or will you step out, lift your head, and dance like those carefree children?

Joy is not postponed until the rain ends

Joy is choosing to dance in the rain anyway.
